Early spring blossom square

The story behind the pattern

Initially I made this square in Mayflower cotton 8/4 Junior yarn and I was happy with the result. The flower in the square was big and fluffy. After a while I wanted to see how the flower looked like with a thicker yarn, so I made a square with Scheepjes Softfun, Softfun Denim and Softfun Aquarel yarns. The yarns made the flower really fluffy and the texture was so nice! Now I’m so in love with this square and I hope you like it too!

Introduction

First you crochet the flower (round 1-12). Next step is to make the square around the flower (round 13-20).
The stitches in the pictures are the stitches I crocheted (not what they count as).

You can find the Early spring blossom square pattern instructions and pictures below on this page, as well as a downloadable PDF. I would recommend the web version on this page, because it has more pictures. To download the PDF pattern for the Early spring blossom square, please click here.

Alternatives

The pattern below can be adjusted, depending on your own preferences. For example:

  • The initial ch on round 1 can be made with a magic ring.
  • You can start each round with a standing stitch wherever possible, instead of ch.
  • You can end each round with an invisible join wherever possible, instead of a sl st.
